The Teddy and Joan Pendergrass Foundation presented a gift of $5000 to the Magee Rehabilitation Hospital to aide in their work with individuals with spinal cord injuries. The gift was part of the proceeds raised by the foundation at the Teddy and Joan Pendergrass Foundation Presents: Traveling Exhibition: “I Am Who I Am” The Life and Legacy of Teddy Pendergrass: Entertainer and Advocate recently held at The African American Museum of Philadelphia.
The mission of Teddy and Joan Pendergrass Foundation is to create a coordinated outreach organization that encourages and assists individuals with spinal cord injuries (SCI) to achieve their maximum potential in areas of education, employment, housing, productivity and overall independence. R&B great Teddy Pendergrass suffered a spinal cord injury due to an automobile accident in 1982. The purpose of the foundation is to help those individuals with spinal cord injuries achieve the benefits they so richly deserve. Unfortunately, Teddy died before he could fully implement his vision but his widow, Joan Pendergrass, made Teddy a promise to continue the fight for those less fortunate through the foundation.
